Ski industry leader supports getting kids active and healthy in winter by providing Free Skiing
Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) started the industry leading RCR/Husky Grade 2 FunPass which provides a full season ski pass to all Grade 2 (or 7 yrs old) students in British Columbia and Alberta. This initiative supports RCR’s committment to getting kids active and healthy in Winter! In addition to the Grade 2 FunPass, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies resorts of Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Nakiska Ski Area also participate in the Grade 4/5 Snow Pass program. This provides free skiing day passes to Grade 4/5 students. It is important to note that in the Canadian Rockies (Banff region) we are the only resort operator that does not Black-out dates that the Grade 2 and or Grade 4/5 passes can be used- we do not feel this is right as for many families this will be the only time that there kids will be able to ski. We want to give kids the best opportunity to ski and snowboard and realize the positive health and family benefits of the sport. To sign up your child for the Grade 2 please visit www.skircr.com or www.skifernie.com, or www.skikimberley.com and or www.skinakiska.com . For the Grade 4/5 please visit any Sport Chek location and or www.snowpass.ca for more information.

Top 3 reasons to check your Ski Equipment
Checking your Ski Equipment now is very important for many reasons but 3 top reasons are
1. I get asked all the time ‘Why should I check my Ski Equipment, as I am not a good skier and spending lots of time on the beginner slopes with kids…” I always say try these- once you try new skis you are on cloud nine. Technology advancements, ski shape, size are some of the many reasons the new skis really do make a difference. You owe it to yourself as it will enhance your skiing skills, make skiing easier and give you more control on the slopes
2. Pair of Skis in the garage- should I use them…..Key here is check the bindings- visit your local ski shop and if you live in Calgary there are Sport Chek locations everywhere to have a pro look at the bindings to make sure they still are in good shape and meet current binding standards
3. Condition of the bases and edges of your skis- now I don’t get my skis tuned all that regularly as I ski mostly in soft, powder snow. But if you are visiting ski resorts that have hard snow or icy conditions regularly then you should get your skis tuned more often

Construction is proceeding as planned on new Polar Peak Chair Lift at Fernie Alpine Resort, Fernie, British Columbia. Crews have achieved some important milestones before Mother Nature delivers massive amounts of Legendary Powder Snow for this winter. Drive Station construction is starting next week and the haul rope (all 22 tons of it!) has been delivered to the base of the Polar Peak Lift. Next step will be flying Lift towers.
