No BS Snow Report, British Columbia is where the best skiing is right now in North America

Find the Skier, in deep, Powder Highway

No BS Snow Report, British Columbia is where the best skiing is in North America right now. While resorts in the United States are still giving updates like you would typically see in November and a friend called me this week to say that he could not believe it, he was playing golf, basking in 65 degree weather in Denver. Closer to home as my travels have taken me to our around most of the ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies and without a doubt the most snow within 4 hours of Calgary is either at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort or Fernie Alpine Resort. After last weeks Herculean Snow event of 5 feet in one week, with 3 feet coming in 18 hrs, at Fernie Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse regularly having 15cm to 20 plus cm days, day after day it is snow-wonder that skiers and riders are making the road trip to these powder kingdoms a regular occurance. With over 19 feet of snow piled up at Kicking Horse and close to 18 feet at Fernie Alpine Resort, it is no BS, that these are the ski resorts to be at to not only enjoy soft, fresh powder snow but also the incredible ease of ski in ski out lodging (no schleping ski gear in and out of the car!). Oh BTW it is snowing again today at both ski resorts….Come enjoy a very snowy January on the Powder Highway of British Columbia

Celebrating community with new Polar Peak lift

Celebrating community with new Polar Peak lift. Over the weekend a historic moment in skiing history happened for the community of Fernie, British Columbia. The New Polar Peak lift opened as part of the season long celebration of 50 years of skiing in the community of Fernie, British Columbia.

New Ski Lift is officially open at Fernie Alpine Resort

Historic opening of new Polar Peak

New Ski lift is officially open at Fernie Alpine Resort. The Polar Peak lift officially opened with rave reviews and celebration of the 50 years of skiing in the community of Fernie, British Columbia. Polar Peak gives a new meaning to Peak experience. Polar Peak is the only new lift in the BC Rockies this year and the only new lift in Canada that goes to the mountain top. This lift is a game changer for ski resort statistics in the Canadian Rockies as now Fernie Alpine Resort has the most vertical and most ski runs in the Rockies. Most importantly yesterday for the Grand Opening ceremony was the celebration of 50 years of skiing in Fernie, British Columbia, and a tribute to all of the powder pioneers in our community, a tribute to those who helped construct the lift (they worked long hard hours and too many names to mention- but we thank you all!) and a thank you to all who ski and ride with us at Fernie Alpine Resort. We had a Facebook contest which had thousands of entries for the right to be in the coveted First Chair seat. The Guides Hut crew won the contest and these guys were pumped and sharing their passion for skiing and riding at Fernie Alpine Resort. We were fortunate to have City Councillor Willard Ripley, Mike Delich and Gordon Dixon on the next chair. It is truly an honor to have these 3 involved in the 50th Anniversary Celebration as they have each played a very important role in the skiing history of our community and the sport of skiing is very fortunate to have such passionate individuals engaged and involved.

Take a sick Day, it’s Powder Tuesday today

Take a sick Day, it’s Powder Tuesday today. Call in sick, put the gruff, foggy fake cough in action because it is time to ski Fernie Alpine Resort. La Nina delivered 20 plus cm over night but hold on as it is still snowing today! Check out the latest video from today at Fernie Alpine Resort. Thanks to the La Nina Girls and Robin Sigger for taking this video today

Look no further, the snow is here

Look no further, the snow is here. A recent powderful Day in the Mountains! ” La Nina is alive and “Kicking” on British Columbia’s Powder Highway”, says Powder Matt

Skiers looking for Snow?

Powder Highway has Snow

Skiers lookin for snow? Post Holiday I have been getting lots of notes from skiing friends who live near ski resorts across Canada and the United States. In summary it is good to see that snow has finally arrived around Quebec City at Mont Sainte Anne and Stoneham. In the US resorts have not been so fortunate. Mammoth and Lake Tahoe snow is sparse. Utah is a little better and Colorado has some resorts that have ok conditions with some areas showing conditions improving following a terrible start to the ski season. We are very fortunate here along the Powder Highway in Southeastern, British Columbia. As this La Nina is picky….She has hand picked a few resorts to get her white bounty. A narrow band has recieved all of the white gold! The facts are that the best skiing is at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Fernie Alpine Resort. These are the few resorts that have been getting the most snow from La Nina so far this winter. Having been to all three of them recently and also visiting many other ski resorts in the region these resorts offer the best snow right now! Don’t miss the Polar Peak lift Grand Opening January 14th at Fernie Alpine Resort! The only new ski lift going into the BC Rockies this winter.
