Last Hurrah to celebrate epic La Nina Winter at Kicking Horse and Fernie Alpine Resort

Fernie Winter & Summer

Last chance to ski and ride at Fernie Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort this weekend! It is a special rite of passage to make the last turns on closing weekend for me. So come on out and join in the Last Hurrah and Celebrate La Nina (Robin Sigger’s friend…) and make your last turns of this winter. Forecast is showing high-pressure building Saturday which hopefully will mean sunny skies and great Spring skiing conditions. But don’t miss the band, April Wine, playing Fernie on Saturday afternoon! Ski, Live Music, Sunshine!
Thank you for skiing and riding with us! Powder Matt

Santa spotted 1st Skiing in the Canadian Rockies

Santa spotted 1st Skiing in the Canadian Rockies. In addition Santa made a surprise visit over the weekend to check on construction update for the new Polar Peak lift. Santa found good progress on the lift as the crews have been working around the clock. The top terminal bull-wheel has been installed, the communication line has been installed and the haul rope installation is in progress. Electrical work continues on the bottom drive terminal. Crews like Santa’s elves are working hard to try and get this lift operational during the Holiday period. Santa has been visiting the world looking for snow and found it at Fernie Alpine Resort, Fernie, British Columbia. So if you have not booked your ski vacation yet then why not go where there is snow and also ski in ski out lodging to make your vacation easier on you.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Happy Skiing!

Powder Matt makes 1st ski tracks at Ski resort in Canadian Rockies for 2011/12 ski season

Snow has fallen on the Canadian Rockies resorts of Fernie Alpine Resort and Nakiska! A Powder Matt tradition is to take the family up to one of our ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies and make the 1st tracks of the winter ski season. Nothing beats spending time with the family in the mountains. The kids and I always spend time checking out the flora and faunea for tell tale signs of an early winter. This year the spotted tussock caterpillars had extra dense fur on them and the squirrels were moving faster than usual to store their nuts.

New Snow in the Canadian Rockies a sure sign of winter coming! Make sure to get your ski vacation booked now. Don’t wait if you are wanting to take a ski vacation during Christmas so you get space.

Welcome Skiers and Riders- enjoy the snow!
