Fernie, British Columbia is best known as one of the top powder skiing destination resorts in the Canadian Rockies and for that matter, Canada. But did you know that Fernie so much to offer in the summer? On a recent visit one can pack in loads of summer adventure fun. As one friend said, “Fernie is not just the best mountain biking in Canada but offers so much more for summer”. I want to share some of that adventure with a list of the top Free activities to do in Fernie, British Columbia. Don’t miss a family favorite, got an inner tube or raft, hit the Elk River and float the town section. On a hot day and you have done the Elk River then head out to Silver Springs, a series of three lakes about 20 minutes south of Fernie. Great swimming, relaxing in the sun on large boulders and rock formations and don’t miss the cliff jumping if you are into that. Why not take a hike….there are so many options from 20 minute walks along the river trail to all day hikes among the tall peaks surrounding the town of Fernie. Visit the Gear Hub and or Guides Hut to get more details on what hike might suit you the best. Mountain Biking is on steroids in Fernie! Have your own bike then you can easily bike for weeks and not hit the same trail. Again good to visit the outdoor shops for local knowledge on trail conditions and finding out what trail would be best for your ability and interest. Visit the museum for interesting background on the legendary history of Fernie! For kids it is always a hit to visit the BMX/Mountain Bike dirt track and or the skateboard park. There is more but this will keep a family having fun for free all weekend in Fernie!
