Latest Cold weather forecast brings ‘Cheers’ to Skiers. I know we are still in the heat of summer but skiers and riders are cheering in Canadian Rockies with recent cooler temperatures.

The presence of El Niño or La Niña – and their strength – is used to project how active the winter season is going to be. Long-Range meteorologists are projecting a weak to moderate El Niño by the fall.

In review of the last 10 years snowfall we have had both El Nino and La Nina and both have created real positive snowfall for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Fernie Alpine Resort. Also it is important to note that no El Nino and or La Nina winters are the same. We have noted that during the recent La Nina cycle we had ‘epic’ single storm snowfall totals and during the last El Nino we had more regular and frequent snowfall but not to the level of the ‘epic’ 5 feet in one storm. Both El Nino and La Nina have provided incredible ski conditions for our region.

Remember the ‘Silly Deep’ video of Dylan Siggers to re-fresh the memories of an epic winter in 2011/12 at Fernie Alpine Resort and as well the same ‘deep’ fun held court at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
