Mountain Trail running great addition to your workout in preparation for ski season

Get outside no matter what. Late Summer and Fall the perfect time to hit the trail for a run. Mountain trail running is a perfect compliment to your existing workout and a great way to break up your routine. Here are 5 tips to get you on the trail now!

Get Schooled

Join us for the first ever Trail Running clinic this September at Fernie Alpine Resort. Hosted by Adam Campbell, a top competitor in some of the world’s most challenging mountain and trail ultra-marathons. He’ll offer advice and training covering technique, gear, hydration, navigation, safety, trail food & etiquette and much more. During the session, along with gaining necessary skills and invaluable information you’ll be led through a variety of trail runs ranging from simple to technical (depending on the level of the clinic and distance goals of the group) to help you gain experience and confidence to venture out on your own runs in the future.

By signing up for the clinic, your accommodations at Lizard Creek Lodge and meals at the new Cirque restaurant (located in the lodge) are included in your registration fee.

Don’t worry about getting dirty

Go ahead hit the puddles. That is part of the fun! Be playful and plow ahead. Get good shoes, check out the new line of Merrell trail running shoes available at Mark’s 

Really sloppy

On those rainy days you can still get out. Given the summer we have had so far you may want to do this. Try using Gore Tex socks as outer and using a lightweight Wigwam sock on the inside.

Extra gear

Mountain mornings can be cool! So don’t forget key items like a base layer top and possibly bottom for extra chilly days. Hats, gloves and even an outer layer for protection from the weather.

Don’t forget your fuel

Water is a must. Remember on cool days it is just as important to drink as it is on the hot days. So keep hydrated and for the longer runs always have some portable fuel like energy bars or gels.

Always best to hit the trail with friends but if not possible please make sure you have let your friends or family know your plans.
