The Canadian Rockies, famous for their legendary mountain backdrops and jaw dropping views, make a perfect destination for a back-country cross country ski trip.

Shadow Lake Lodge, a historic lodge, dating back to the early days of the Canadian Pacific Railway, provides that perfect mix, easy access and nestled in an alpine valley surrounded by majestic peaks.

Access is easy, just a short drive West, along the Trans Canada Highway from Banff, you will find the Redearth Creek parking lot. Follow a 14.4 km trail, mostly along the valley bottom with short ups and downs, for 11 km it is an old fire road. Track set compliments of Shadow Lake Lodge, making this the perfect cross country ski lodge. At 11 km you will have a steeper section that you can walk up if you like and then a short flat section through open meadow until you reach the lodge.

Spectacular views abound from Shadow Lake Lodge, and loads of trails head out from here for loads of exploration. Lodging is in individual cabins- so not only is this perfect for families but also makes a wonderful romantic escape. As not many backcountry lodges have this option.

Rounding out a wonderful experience is the food- the staff prepare a wonderful selection of fresh, home-style meals that will provide you the fuel needed to enjoy wonderful days exploring the trails.
