Who does not like killer tunes, inspiration from a motivator and doing something that is good for you! Hit YYC Cycle to get in on the fun and catch the energy! A couple of months away from the snow flying and the ski lifts spinning makes this a perfect time to start your cross training program. If you have not been active this summer no worries. Take advantage of all of the benefit you will gain from fitness like slaying the pow longer on those deep days!

Balance, leg strength, stable core muscles and good cardio, are the key ingredients to getting more from the slopes this winter. Spinning provides one aspect of your cross-training program that provides a good level of development for all of these elements.

Balance

From unloading the lift, the run and re-load of the chairlift, the slope is constantly changing. Add in some speed and your ever moving body position, and you have great need for good balance. With the variety of positioning on the seat, standing and other motion your balance will be enhanced from spinning.

Core

Everything we do can be enhanced by a stronger core muscle group. Core strength is constantly gained by the variety of tempo, the standing up and sitting during changes in routine, well, let’s say your core gets worked throughout the entire class.

Strength

You want to remove ‘thigh burning’ from ‘thigh burning fun’ on a powder day. Skiing and snowboarding depend on quick leg action and constant pull and push movements. Spinning provides the endurance training but the incredible muscle development to provide you the strength to pound moguls all day comes from a mix of this endurance and a healthy dose of hill climbing. The added benefit is stronger ligaments and tendons to reduce potential injury while you are enjoying winter sports.
