5 reasons to spend your ski vacation along the Powder Highway of British Columbia

by powdermatt / Thursday, 24 November 2016 / Published in British Columbia, Fernie Alpine Resort, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

It is snowing here. We love snow here. In fact the famed Powder Highway of British Columbia is known for snow. Lots of it. Up to 50 feet in some places.

But it is more than that. Cool mountain towns dot this road, filled with passionate people you will enjoy spending time with. So combined with a variety of terrain this region in and around the Canadian Rockies beckons you to discover more moments that matter.

Your feed  will feature FOMO

From breathtaking mountain scenery, to wild hot springs to mom and pop foodie dreams, you will have many nuggets to snap and share.

Don’t move around

Pick one of the authentic mountain communities of Golden, Kimberley and Fernie and you will find all you need for a complete vacation. From B&B’s to luxury lodges, hotels and private mountain cabins to meet every need. If you have not tried ski in and ski out you owe it to yourself. This is really true for families, staying slopeside will become your best friend, removing any need to load the car and making hot chocolate time….well anytime.

Swim under the stars

Lizard Creek Lodge, Fernie, BC, offers a pool with an incredible view. Not only is swimming marvelous here but the location 50 feet from the lift, makes this one of the easiest ski to your door experiences in the mountains.

Everyone is welcome here

Slope time is great but after skiing activities abound for all ages in these mountain towns. Bring your own or rent, as Fernie, Kimberley and Golden will have you sliding on some of the best trails around for cross country skiing and fat biking. If you like running, don’t forget to pack the trail running shoes, as many trail options exist for a short jaunt or an epic winter workout. Each community has a great offering of additional winter activities from dog sledding, ice skating, nature watching and more.

Time to get ready to Ski

Snow is important

Yep it happens here. As of November 24th, Kicking Horse has already had over 8 feet of snow to date. Fernie Alpine Resort, known for legendary powder, gets up to 40 feet each winter. With that much snow there is more than enough to go around. So what are you waiting for? It is snowing and mountain time matters….
