Deep Dreams along BC Powder Highway

By Powder Matt

Right now there is a 60 plus percent chance that we will have an El Nino winter for the upcoming 2012/13 ski season. El Nino Return is the prediction- Here is excerpt from NOAA

AT THIS TIME THE CHANCES FOR EL NINO DEVELOPING BY THE END OF THE YEAR ARE AROUND 65%. THE TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK FOR ASO 2012 INDICATES ENHANCED ODDS FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR MUCH OF THE CONTINENTAL U.S., EXCEPT FOR THE WEST COAST, NORTHERN ROCKIES, AND PARTS OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS. ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE MOST LIKELY IN NORTHERN ALASKA

The key note is normal or below normal temperatures for Northern Rockies. NOAA is a US based agency but they do a very good job of predicting winter weather. The Powder Triangle resorts of Fernie Alpine Resort, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Kimberley Alpine Resort share some of the same weather patterns noted for the US Northern Rockies. Primarily for the region of the Rockies located in Northwestern Montana.

The key for those looking to book ski vacations is that you need cooler temperatures and moisture to generate snowfall. In the past 10 years looking at Fernie Alpine Resort snowfall data clearly shows an average around 30 feet of snowfall during a ski season.

30 feet is loads of snow! In fact this is the deepest average snowfall total in the Canadian Rockies and as in the case of last winter, with over 37 feet of total snowfall, Fernie recorded the deepest snowfall total in both the US and Canadian Rockies.

Snow is a key ingredient to your ski vacation. I am already doing my famous ‘Snow Dance’ over and over again. Here is one from last winter! Now go out and do your own ‘Snow Dance’ to bring down the Pow for another epic winter along the Powder Highway at the Powder Triangle ski resorts of British Columbia! I can’t wait! Gives me Goose Bumps just thinking about winter!!

Don’t forget to check out your ski gear and winter clothing now as many ski shops have great deals on gear now. Also check out gear guides for reviews on the latest outdoor, winter gear and ski travel.
