It is unfortunate that Winter is taking a slow boat to arrive in some parts of North America but that is not the case along the Powder Highway of British Columbia. Can you say speedboat. Here along the Powder Highway the snow came early and hard. In fact Kicking Horse Mountain Resort had its earliest opening in the history of the resort. November snow piled up deep.
December came in sweet and smacked Fernie Alpine Resort with regular and weekly snowstorms. Fernie if you don’t know about is a place where a bear like boy, the Griz, shoots his musket into the sky to bring on the snowstorms. Locals call it a magical powder place. Snow is not only loved by all it is a way of life. Unbridled craziness on a powder day. Beginning with the opening of the base area lifts people line up in massive sticks underfoot to go on their own version of Powder Patrol. Scoring freshies on Snake Ridge, well let’s just say that is an all time favorite.
So are you still thinking of where to go for that ski vacation. Well at this point we have add over 13 feet of total snowfall to date at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and that makes it one of the deepest for sure in North America. In addition you can’t go wrong with the incredible terrain at both resorts and the thigh burning vertical of each. Kicking Horse, is not too shabby with the 4th biggest vertical in North America and Fernie tops out with the biggest vertical in the Canadian Rockies. Yep…many don’t realize that it is bigger than the Banff resorts in both vertical, more ski runs and of course in total annual snowfall.
